This notice explains what personal information Syntaxe Ltd collects through this website, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
Syntaxe Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17123281. Our registered office is listed on Companies House. We decide how the information described here is used. You can reach us about anything in this notice at hello@syntaxeltd.com.
What we collect, and why
When you email us. We receive your name, your email address and what you write. We use them to reply, and to discuss and carry out any work we agree with you. We do this because it is necessary to answer you and to take steps you ask for before a contract.
When you comment on an article. We receive your name, your email address and your comment. WordPress also records your IP address and browser details, which we use only to stop spam. We read every comment before it appears. Your name and comment are shown with the article; your email address is never shown. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in running a discussion under our articles.
Analytics, only if you accept. If you click Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics records which pages you visit, for how long, how you arrived, your type of device and browser, and your approximate location (country and city). Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We use this to see which pages are useful and which bring enquiries. We do this only with your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page.
Website security. Like every website, our hosting company records the IP address and the request for each visit, to keep the site secure and working. We have a legitimate interest in doing so.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Cookies
We remember your choice on the cookie banner in your own browser, not in a cookie, so no cookie is set until you accept.
If you accept, these cookies are set:
- _ga, _ga_VLJ5XGTZ9X (Google Analytics): Tells visits apart, so pages can be counted. Kept up to 2 years.
Choosing Decline, or changing your mind later in "Cookie settings", removes them.
Who else handles your information
- Our website hosting company, which runs this website.
- Our email provider, which carries the emails you send us.
- Google, for analytics, only if you accept.
Each of them handles your information on our behalf under a written agreement. Google may process analytics information in the United States, where it is protected under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Emails: for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry. If we do business together, we keep the business records for the six years UK law requires.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published. Ask us and we will remove it.
- Analytics: for the period set in our Google Analytics account, and never more than 14 months.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop or limit how we use it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email hello@syntaxeltd.com and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would welcome the chance to put things right first.

If we change this notice, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
